Sarah & Kendrick's Mid-Century Modern Winter Wonderland Wedding at The Tinsmith

A stylish Mid-Century Modern winter wonderland wedding at The Tinsmith, complete with bespoke bridal fashion, festive décor, and meaningful handmade touches.

Sarah and Kendrick met online between Christmas and New Year’s, and as lifelong Wisconsin residents, decided to embrace the holiday season and snowy landscapes in their Mid-century modern winter wonderland wedding.

The couple got engaged in late 2019, and months later, when the world shut down, they decided a long engagement would be best for them and guests who would be traveling for the occasion. They spent the next few years planning, buying a house, growing their careers, and adding another pet to the family. Sarah reflected, “We took time to grow together and re-envision our special day, laying a foundation for the home and partnership we dreamed of creating. Worth the wait and work!”

With travel restrictions lifted and surrounded by their closest friends and family, Sarah and Kendrick enjoyed their dream wedding at The Tinsmith in downtown Madison. The Tinsmith is a versatile, modern industrial venue, with vaulted ceilings and ample natural light across the ceremony space, reception hall, and gorgeous four-season solarium.

For couples currently in the wedding planning process, Sarah and Kendrick agree, “Do what you want to do – seriously. People will love it because they love you; be yourself.” From first look to last dance, the couple showcased their unique personalities throughout the day–beginning with fashion!

Sarah wore a bespoke bridal jumpsuit with a notch-v square neckline, a cinched waist, and pockets! Her bridal look also featured long tulle sleeves and an attached, full-length skirt. The palette for the day mostly comprised of white, gold, silver, blue, and green, and Sarah embraced all of the colors and more in her makeup. Gillian Drier designed a glam, glittery ombre eye in teal, blue, peach, and gold.

Other bridal accessories included a gold sun halo, an antique fur stole, a gold and pearl statement necklace, and sparkling heels. Felly’s Flowers created a festive, cascading bouquet of calla lilies, evergreen bunches, white berries, bunny tail stems, and pinecones.

Kendrick wore a custom dark, jewel-toned teal suit from Indochino, with a crisp white undershirt and thrifted blue suede shoes. He also accessorized with a lapel boutonniere and a flat-brim fedora.

Azena Photography captured details, portraits, and candid moments across indoor and chilly outdoor photos, with Sarah writing, “[Azena Photography] made sure we took photos we didn’t know we would want and gave us great direction to show off our best selves and come out of our shells.”

For their winter wonderland wedding, ornaments and pine trees were a must. Sarah and Kendrick put love, time, and artistry into creating many of their décor items, including over a thousand ornaments and over a dozen trees of various colors and heights. The bride and groom also handmade their corsages, boutonnieres, signage pieces, and games for their guests.

Their ceremony backdrop featured green and white trees of varying heights, with strings of ornaments dangling overhead.

After tying the knot, the celebration continued at the reception. Guests were directed to their seats by a handmade, envelope seating chart. During their planning process, Sarah and Kendrick took the time to write sentimental letters to each of their guests, which also directed them to their tables.

In addition to their own work, the couple credits their friends, family, and their wedding planner for bringing their vision to life. The mother of the bride made chair bows, tree skirts, and table runners for the day, and also designed Sarah and Kendrick’s sweetheart table. Sarah’s father created the giant ornament installations, and a team of the couple’s best friends helped set it all up. Wedding planner The Midwestern Bride oversaw the entire process, helping timelines run smoothly and stress-free.

The rest of the night was spent enjoying dinner from Steenbock’s on Orchard, tabletop games, and plenty of dancing to music provided by Midwest Sound. Guests stayed nearby at Hotel Indigo, with shuttle services to keep everyone safe and warm.
