WEDDING DATE: 08/12/17

HOW DID YOU MEET? The old-fashioned way. I sent him a message through an online dating site.

HOW DID YOU KNOW HE WAS "THE ONE"? We were on a hike in the mountains of Montana. I was walking behind him on a trail that looked out into a beautiful valley, and I just knew.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROPOSAL: Jim asked me if I wanted to go for a walk one Saturday morning last November. He took me to a Japanese garden near our apartment that recently re-opened after years of restoration, and we had never been to.  He asked me to marry him at the pagoda there.  Jim had an entire day of celebrating planned, including brunch at one of our favorite restaurants and seeing a musical version of a book that's really special to us. It was an incredible day.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DRESS: I was perusing a clothing website, not even looking for a wedding dress. I saw a dress in red and thought "If that exists in white, it would be perfect."  And it did, and it was!  I tried on one other dress that was a bit more traditional, but it wasn't me. I feel so lucky to have spotted that dress!

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS: Local, in season, wild and beautiful!!  We wanted lots of color for the reception decorations and plants hanging in the chapel. Burlington Flowers did such an amazing job.

WHAT WAS YOUR COLOR PALETTE? It was based on a picture of a duck that I love! Oranges and pinks with a hint of mint and grey.

WERE THERE ANY PERSONAL TOUCHES OR DIY ELEMENTS? Definitely!  I collected all of the macrame that hung in the chapel from thrift stores around Chicago.  The Himalayan singing bowl that we used in the ceremony is ours.  We paper-clipped the ceremony proceedings to the pages of one of our books about the rainforest.  Jim, his dad, and I made the table markers out of fallen tree trunks.  My mom and I decorated all the of mason jars!  And that's just to name a few.

DID YOU USE ANY SPECIALTY TABLES, CHAIRS, LINENS OR DINNERWARE? Yes! We loved the mix and match vintage chairs from Best Events and the wood chargers from Burlington Flowers.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING? It's hard to pick just one because it was such an amazing, unforgettable day.  But I think one of the most special (and hilarious!) things were the speeches by our Best Men and Maids of Honor.
