A Black-Tie Garden Romance: Mette & Parker’s Dreamy Madison Celebration

While online dating opens many lines of communication, every couple moves at their own pace when it comes to that first face-to-face meeting. For Mette & Parker, that meant a first date just a few days after matching, with neither preferring to text only. They met at the Camp Trippalindee rooftop bar and quickly bonded over their shared love of travel and their close relationships with friends and family.

They later walked to the Red Rock Saloon down the street to dance, where they ran into Parker’s brother and, “coincidentally,” Mette’s best friend. They had a blast talking and dancing, and Parker even rode the mechanical bull to impress Mette–which she says worked! The couple felt comfortable and welcomed, seamlessly blending into each other’s lives. Their next date, a walk at Pheasant Branch Conservancy, was scheduled for the very next day.

Two years later, Parker took Mette back to the Camp Trippalindee for an early anniversary date. When the elevator doors opened, both of their families were waiting on the terrace. Parker dropped to one knee, Mette said yes, and the couple immediately celebrated surrounded by their loved ones and beautiful city views.

The couple prioritized their relationship with God when planning their wedding, choosing to tie the knot in a traditional ceremony at Luther Memorial Church. For their other big-picture planning, the couple started by watching YouTube videos and creating a budget in Google Sheets to edit in real time. Mette and Parker also attended the annual WedPlan expo, where they found inspiration, made connections, and booked a couple of their favorite vendors!

Mette looked radiant in a modern, A-line gown from Strike Bridal Bar. The dress, made from luxe satin, featured a square neckline, thin straps, side illusion-cutouts, and a low back adorned with an oversized bow. Izzy Town from Anaala Salon and Spa Hilldale fixed her hair into loose waves, pulled back into a half-updo, and completed with a cathedral-length, satin-edge veil. The bridesmaids wore varying styles of soft, butter-yellow dresses, a very trendy color for recent weddings.

Parker and his groomsmen wore classic black suits from Indochino, with coordinating black shoes, bow ties, and floral boutonnieres. While all wore a white undershirt, Parker’s subtly stood out with a row of dark buttons contrasting the front.

For their black-tie garden theme, the couple chose a color palette of black, white, yellow, orange, and pink, mixing pastel hues with pops of vibrant color and citrus details. Florist B-Styled played a significant role in shaping the theme, keeping the colors and décor cohesive throughout the ceremony, reception, and everything in between.

Prominent blooms were airy, modern, and fun, including calla lilies, roses, tulips, zinnias, strawflower, and anthuriums. Queen Anne’s Lace, cosmos, stock flowers, and snapdragons served as supporting florals, with the installations rounded out with vine greenery, eucalyptus, and amaranthus. Each freeform bouquet provided a garden aesthetic, with cascading greenery adding movement and visual interest.

Mette & Parker hosted their dream reception in the Overture Center’s Promenade Hall, an elegant event space on the second floor. Brazilian cherry wood floors, twinkling overhead lighting, and beautiful florals and décor created a warm, inviting environment to enjoy dinner, drinks, and dancing. In addition to being beautiful, the Overture Center held additional meaning for the couple.

Mette reflected, “Having our wedding at the Overture Center was sentimental to both Parker and I because not only is it a space for countless dates together, it was also the first place our parents and Grandmas got to meet each other, which was when we took them all to the Christmas concert.”

Many personal details shone throughout the day. They included their pets on a custom drink sign (designed by Mette!), painted a custom dessert plate together, and even added a magician as a surprise during cocktail hour. Later, guests enjoyed dinner from Fresco, a fresh, citrus cake from Miggy’s Bake, and desserts from Nothing Bundt Cakes.

Of all the beautiful moments from their day, the couple will always remember the way they felt during the last dance. They wrote,

“The last song that our DJ played was Champagne Supernova. The song did not hold much meaning to either of us until that night. Getting to spend that last moment dancing together with all of our friends and family circled around us was so beautiful and something we will always cherish.”

Then, Mette playfully added, “A runner-up might be that 30 minutes later Parker was riding the bull at Red Rock in his tuxedo and I took a turn in my wedding dress.”
